LochFest is July 31

LochFest event returns on July 31, 2021! We are pleased to bring back this event after its brief hiatus in 2020 and bring our community together again this year. The event will run from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, and admission will remain at $5 for everyone over the age of 2. There will again be music, games, food, and activities for neighbors of all ages! We hope to release more details and the schedule soon.

We are currently in the process of planning this year’s event. LochFest only happens because we’ve been fortunate to have so many volunteers and sponsors to help us out. We’ll need volunteers and sponsors again this year!

There are a variety of ways you can help us make LochFest a success. From organizing and preparing for the event in the weeks beforehand to working a shift the day of the event, there are easy ways you can help out. Let us know if you can dedicate some time to any of these tasks by sending an email to events@lochlomondlake.com:

  • Set up and tear down
  • Admission and apparel tables
  • Cooking shift
  • Organizing LochFest 2022

Board Meeting Tonight at South Beach

Join us tonight at 7 p.m. at Loch Lomond’s South Beach for the June LLPOA Board of Directors meeting. The July 19 meeting will be held at North Beach.

Blue-green algae

Blue-green algae has been spotted at South Beach this year. Blue-green algae are photosynthetic bacteria that are a natural part of the aquatic environment and are often present in Illinois lakes in small or moderate amounts. However, these organisms can grow and proliferate quickly in warm, fresh water that is rich with nutrients (like nitrogen and phosphorous), which results in an algal “bloom”. This type of bloom has been spotted in Loch Lomond before.

Blue-green algae can cause illness in people and animals, and, though the LLPOA is implementing lake management methods including aeration, spraying, and regular water quality testing to reduce the risk of algal blooms, there could be more beach closings due to blue-green algae this summer.

If you believe you’ve come across blue-green algae in Loch Lomond, remember the following tips:

  • Do not swim or fish near the algal bloom
  • Send an email to LLPOAboard@lochlomondlake.com noting the location
  • Always rinse off after being in the lake
  • Don’t let your dogs drink lake water or lick it off their fur
  • Rinse dogs off immediately if they swim through an algal bloom

Meet Your 2021 Lifeguards

South Beach is once again staffed for the summer season! We have a great crew of lifeguards and gate guards helping us keep South Beach safe and clean. Beach hours are noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Please note that lifeguards are required to close the water a half hour before the posted closing time in order to clean up and perform other duties. We appreciate your understanding.

Also remember that only residents in good standing and their guests are invited to use our beaches. That means you must be paid up on dues. Please bring your 2021 beach tags with you each time you use either beach, both during staffed and non-staffed hours.

  • If residents come to the beach during non-guard hours, please leave the beach the way it was when you arrived (i.e. goose fence needs to be put back, toys need to be cleaned up etc.)
  • When parents take children into the deep end to swim, the parent must remain at shoulder depth, one child per adult, and the child must wear a life preserver (not arm floaties).
  • Nobody under the age of 12 may enter the beach without a person 16 or older to accompany them.
