LLPOA LAKE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE UPDATE

inform & educate residents; develop sustainable lake management solutions

1. Biodredge – Brian will be picking up our biodredge order Wednesday and delivering to those who have paid for their order. We ordered 18 blocks and 44 pails of material.
2. Geese – We are down to 1 goose family with 5 goslings (used to be 7). This is again an improvement over the previous year. We will be increasing the height of the current small fence at the South Beach swim area as the goslings are getting around the current small fence.
3. Water circulators – The electrical work needed at both North and South Beaches to support water circulators will be completed soon. We are waiting on the manufacturer to ship warranty replacement lights for the beach lights at South Beach that stopped working. The water circulator for North Beach is planned to be ordered and installed later this summer.
4. Lake County Health Department was out on our lake with their carp removal boat and removed 25 carp. Thanks to Kevin and Walt for helping out. Check out the Facebook post on the Loch Lomond Property Owners Association FB group.
5. The weed harvester has started cutting weeds in our lake again. They will be out 3 days a week through September.
6. The Tony Baade Fishing Derby will be held on June 20 from 9:00 AM to Noon at South Beach. Thanks to George, Paul and Pizza Bill for coordinating this year’s tournament. Entry fee is $5 cash with cash prizes for adults and medals for the kids division. Loch Lomond residents of all ages are welcome.
7. Lochfest is back again this year and bigger than last year. Volunteers are needed for many things from setup to check-in to grilling to cleanup. We are looking for a couple boat owners to provide boat rides for part of the afternoon. This is a well received activity for those residents who do not usually get the opportunity to go out on our lake. Please contact Tom if you are interested in providing boat rides. There will be a full lineup of Loch Lomond musicians providing music throughout the day. And yes, the corn will be back!
8. The South Beach cleanup was held on Saturday May 16 9:00 AM. Most of the tasks were completed and we are working on completing the remaining tasks. Thanks to everyone who pitched in to get South Beach ready for the swimming season.
9. The buffer strip at South Beach was inadvertently mowed down by our landscape crew. They are helping us restore the buffer strip. The floating islands are being relocated to allow for easier access for oversight and maintenance. We will be adding additional plants to the islands as we learn which plant varieties the muskrats won’t eat. The islands add needed plant coverage to our lake as well as plant diversity. This helps to reduce the amount of nutrients available for algae thereby reducing the potential for harmful algal blooms.
10. Silt traps – Paul continues to research silt trap options for some of our inlets and has met with village engineers to see how we can partner in these efforts. They are open to working with us.
11. Loch Lomond road replacement – The village is currently planning on replacing Dunbar, Killarney Pass and Killarney Pass Circle this summer. Paul has met with the village engineer who is overseeing this project and has more information on the various aspects of the project.
12. Dam update – Kevin provided an update on the dam maintenance required from our last IDNR required dam inspection report. Paul and Kevin were out on the concrete spillway cleaning and power washing the spillway. It looks like additional repair work may be needed. They will be reaching out to the engineer who wrote the report with additional questions.
