LLPOA LAKE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE UPDATE
February 10, 2026
inform & educate residents; develop sustainable lake management solutions
- Whole lake spray for invasive curly leaf pondweed – The committee discussed the proposals for the whole lake spray again this year to control the invasive curly leaf pondweed. This will be done prior to the growing season for the native plants in the lake. The recommendation is to go with the lowest bidder which was McCloud Aquatics. McCloud has provided this service for several years and is very familiar with our lake.
- Weed harvesting – We plan on continuing the weed harvesting this summer. This will be the third summer we have done this. The recommendation is go with the lowest bidder which is Lake Monsters again this year. This will be the third year for them on our lake. Lake Monsters also offers an option for lakefront homeowners to pay for weed removal along their shoreline.
- Fish stocking – Luke gave an informative report on the fish stocking history of our lake and the rationale behind how we stock our lake (predator vs feeder fish). We are waiting for 1 more bid to come this week. The recommendation was to focus on perch and hybrid crappie in the spring and northern pike in the fall. We have a generous donation from an anonymous donor to cover the cost of the fish stocking this year.
- Fencing for the South Beach swim area – Paul and John P. will be looking into a new design for fencing at the South Beach swim area for the summer months. The focus will be to make it easier for homeowners to access the swim area. They are currently looking into a possibility of using a curtain type device with flotation on the surface that would deter the goslings from entering the swim area and then the beach. This option would not be fencing on the beach but would be placed in the water encircling the swim area outside the pier and would not have to be moved by residents using the swim area.
- Tony Baade Father’s Day Weekend Fishing Derby – We are looking for a volunteer (or two) to run this fishing derby. It is held the Saturday morning of Father’s Day weekend from 9:00 AM to Noon. We have held this event for a number of years. The volunteer would oversee the derby collecting information from the fish caught by the participants and awarding prizes to the winners in each category. It’s easy to do and we will train you. Please reach out to Tom Casey if you are interested or have questions about it. Without a volunteer this year we will be unable to continue this worthwhile event.
- Major inlet silt traps – Paul is researching building and installing silt traps at our major inlets. The objective will be to trap silt before it gets into our lake. The village will remove the silt from these traps if they are close enough to the road for their vacuum truck to access them.
- Dredging of the North Bay inlet and the Firth Inlet were discussed. These are the 2 areas that most need attention. Dredging is costly. We received one estimate for the North Bay inlet of $40,000 and one estimate for the Firth inlet of $150,000. We currently have $150,000 in reserves which would not cover dredging both areas. The idea of a special assessment was briefly discussed. The consensus was that we should develop a plan to address the various areas needing dredging that includes priority and cost as well as funding.
