Beach closings and flags
You may have noticed the swimming area at South Beach has been closed several times this year. Despite LLPOA efforts to minimize the growth of harmful organisms, we occasionally have E. coli and blue-green algae in our lake. To monitor these organisms, our lake water is sampled and tested by the health department after any significant rainfall.
A red beach flag is displayed while we await the results, and it remains displayed if the water sample results to advise against swimming. Lifeguards will not be on duty when a red flag is displayed. Our water is tested daily until the results are suitable again for swimming. A yellow flag will indicate that the water quality is borderline, and our guards will be on duty. A green flag means we are good to swim.
The beach flag is displayed near the entrance to South Beach, and is updated on the home page and beach page of the Loch Lomond website.
